Notes for Margaret FISHER
Margaret (Peg) Fisher Linvill passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on August 11, 2018. Peg was born March 9, 1930 to Royal O. and Elizabeth Fisher of East Haddam, CT. Following in the footsteps of her father who was a school principal, Peg graduated cum laude with a BS in Education from the University of Vermont and later earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Connecticut. Peg was a voracious reader who was known to many for her intellectual prowess. She read at least two newspapers a day to stay current on world events as well as endless novels; but her true love was poetry. Always broadening their understanding of the world and other cultures, Peg and her husband Paul traveled to all seven continents and all seven seas. This passion is one that they shared with their children and grandchildren. Peg was an active member of Providence Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). Peg met her future husband, Paul Linvill at a Quaker work camp in Mexico. Peg taught at Friends Central and Westtown for years before marrying Paul in 1957. She stopped teaching to focus on raising her four children but continued her support and cultivation of Friends’ education by serving on the Board of Media-Providence School and teaching religious education at Providence Meeting. Peg cherished her community and fellowship at Providence Meeting. As part of Linvilla Orchards, the family business, Peg started and managed the Gift Shop in the upstairs of the octagonal barn. She taught many classes sharing her knowledge of local flowers and her creativity in arrangements and wreaths. Peg Linvill was the creator of Pumpkinland; a legacy that has touched thousands of visitors every year. Peg had no greater love than that of family. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Paul Linvill, daughters Susan Jochum (Tony), Nancy Dole (Randy), Jean Hannemann (Walter) and son Steven Linvill (Andrea). Peg was dearly loved and admired by each of her eight grandchildren; Sarah Jochum, Elijah and Mary Linvill, Nathan and Rachel Dole and Lydia, Emily and Wyatt Hannemann. A Memorial Meeting for Worship will be held at 11am on September 1, 2018 at Providence Friends Meeting, 105 N. Providence Road, Media, PA 19063. Friends may visit and share memories at Providence Meeting on Friday, August 31st from 7 to 9pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Peg’s honor to Friends Council on Education, 1507 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102, Fairville Friends School 216 Pond View Chaddsford, PA 19317 or Media Providence Friends School 125 W. 3rd Street Media PA 19063.
