Byard Reed Widdoes
Wilmington - Age 90, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Byard was born in New Castle, DE, to the late Lura (nee Reed) and Byard C. Widdoes, on March 16, 1928. He graduated from William Penn High School, and joined the U.S. Navy as WWII was ending. He served on the USS Barnes in the Pacific. After discharge he attended Goldey Beacom College.
He met and married the love of his life, Kathleen M. Quill. His devotion and love of his family was evident in everything he did. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren play baseball, football, and basketball. He volunteered at Corpus Christi Parish and taught CCD classes at the grade school.
Byard was employed by the DuPont Company for 30 years in Wilmington, working as a pipefitter until his retirement in 1979. After retiring from DuPont, he went to work at Campbell Ford as a salesman. He enjoyed cars, boating, traveling, watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies games. He loved spending summers with his family at the Delaware beaches.
Byard was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Widdoes (nee Quill); and son, Byard J. Widdoes.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Karen Widdoes of Newark, DE; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Neyers, of Hockessin, DE; his daughter, Susan Widdoes, and Mike Stevens of New Castle, DE; and his daughter-in-law, Maryellen Widdoes, of Lewes, DE. Byard is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, Kelly Widdoes, Richard Neyers, Katherine Bragg, Katherine Blevins, Marguerite Wilson, Maryellen Tobon, Timothy Widdoes, Byard Widdoes, David Neyers, Kari Fitzgerald, Timothy M. Widdoes, James Widdoes; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Lori Arak of Caldwell, ID; and his brother, Frank Donald Widdoes of Dover, DE.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, on Thursday, May 3 at 11:00 am at St. Mary of the Assumption R.C. Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Friends may call at the church from 9:30-11am. Interment will take place in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave, Wilmington, DE 19805.
