Notes for William R. KING
William R. King, 85, of Kittanning, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 18, 1927 in Wilkinsburg, PA, the son of Thomas D. and Sarah Lucretia (Blose) King.
Bill lived in Armstrong County for most of his life and served in the US Navy during World War II. He graduated from Penn State University in 1951 and earned his Master's degree in animal science in 1952. For over 30 years Bill worked for the Penn State Agricultural Extension as the Armstrong County Agricultural Agent, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed his job and his hard work was evident, earning him the Distinguished Service Award in 1977.
After his retirement, Bill paired his passion for the Armstrong County outdoors with a new interest: photography. He was a self-taught nature photographer and published "Armstrong County: A Place for All Seasons," which showcased many of his beautiful photos. Bill also published "Granddad's Front Porch," his grandfather's memoir.
Bill was an active member of the Kittanning community, holding memberships with the Kittanning Rotary and the Camera Club of Armstrong and Indiana Counties, and serving as an original member of the Armstrong County Tourist Bureau. He was also a member of Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church, where he was a past elder. Bill's legacy of kindness and his love for nature will be remembered by his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Juliette "Judy" (Guyer) King; sons, William W. King and wife, Louisa, of Gypsum, CO and David T. King, of Kittanning; daughters, Susan K. Bower and husband, Edwin, and Kathy King, all of Kittanning; grandchildren, Benjamin K. Bower and wife, Julie, Maggie B. Sikora and husband, Mark, Nathan T. King and Colden M. King; great-granddaughter, Molly Kate Sikora; brothers, Thomas B. King and wife, Alice, of State College and J. Fred King, of Hillsdale; and sister, Carol Ann Smith, of Hamilton, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, James E. King.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning.
Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church, 106 Brown Rd., Freeport, with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating.
Burial will be in Slate Lick Cemetery, Freeport, Pennsylvania, where military honors will be presented by the American Legion Honor Guard.
