Notes for Mary Jane GOODMAN

Mary Jane Sharpless (nee Goodman) 91, of Spring Oak Assisted Living, Vineland, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Sharpless was the daughter of Lydie (Rotan) and Arthur L. Goodman of Linwood, NJ and Drexel Hill, PA. She was also predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 66 years, Charles C. "Bud" Sharpless, and her brother, Ronald Goodman. Jane and Bud met in Ocean City, NJ and were married on 2/16/46 in Drexel Hill upon his return from service in the Army (Field Artillery, 491 AAA) during WWII, lived in Pennsauken and moved to Glassboro, NJ where they raised their family. She took pride in her work as a secretary at the Glassboro Housing Authority and later the Gloucester County Housing Authority. After retirement, they moved to the "Big Old House" in Dorchester, NJ where the family enjoyed generations of fond memories along the Maurice River.

She will always be remembered as a strong, smart, independent and forward-thinking woman. She enjoyed RV traveling, being a winter Texan, collecting glass paper weights, was an avid reader, and delighted in sewing and embroidering for her family. An angel of a caregiver, she nurtured many family members throughout her life. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family.

Mary Jane leaves to cherish her memory her three children, James Sharpless (Pat) of Lyons, NY, Janet Pippert (Dale) of Wilmington, DE, and Robert Sharpless (Jayne) of Monroeville, NJ; two grandchildren, Heather Worthington (John) and Zachary Sharpless, four step-grandchildren Michael (Dawn) and Stephanie Fazzio, and Craig (Nikki) and Keith Worrall; and four great grandchildren, Jack, Abby, Nico, and Vivian, whom she adored.

The family would like to thank her friends, caring aides and staff at Spring Oak Assisted Living and BAYADA Hospice for helping her maintain her independence and dignity to the end of a full life.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Hoffman Funeral Homes 643 Main Street Leesburg, NJ where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Haleyville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NJ Veterans Memorial Home 425 NW Blvd., Vineland, NJ 08360.
