Edmund "Jeff" Jefferies Hathaway
Lake Ariel - Edmund "Jeff" Jefferies Hathaway, DVM, 90 of Lake Ariel, died on Monday, December 25, 2017 at his home.
Born on March 30, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Ruth Jefferies Hathaway. He was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and received his Doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of Pharmacist's Third Class.
Jeff practiced veterinary medicine for more than forty years in Wilmington, DE as owner of the Wilmington Animal Hospital. After retiring to the Pocono Mountains, Jeff started House Call Veterinary Service and continued seeing pets until recently taken ill.
Jeff was an active member of Rotary International, first as a member and president of the Brandywine (DE) Rotary Club, then as a founding member of the Hamlin (PA) Rotary Club.
As an outdoors man, Jeff enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking and golfing.
He loved his many trips to Canada fishing with his children. He was also an avid Penn State fan always cheering for the Nittany Lions.
Jeff traveled the world extensively, making trips to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Africa and Europe.
He is survived by his wife Lydia of Lake Ariel, PA. He is also survived by his his sons, Glenn (Janet) and Clay (Rhonda) Hathaway; his daughter, Lori Hathaway (Jim); step-daughters Lisa and Linda Hale; grandchildren Adrienne, Ryan, Rebecca, Max and Ian; great grandson Cash; and step-grandson John.
As per his request, he was cremated and a celebration of life in true Irish style is planned for 4 to 6 pm, Saturday December 30th, 2017 at the home of Clay & Rhonda Hathaway, 126 Fairfax Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19803. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to your local animal shelter or humane society. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
