Notes for Holbrook Miller Jr. BUNTING

Holbrook Miller Bunting, Jr., 90, revered husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed on Tuesday night, December 12, 2017, at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Middletown Township, Pa. Born June 27, 1927, in West Chester, Pa., Holbrook (Brook) lived in Washington state, until enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 16 during World War II. He attended Washington State College (now University) following his discharge from the Marines. Married in 1949 to Elizabeth (Betty) Bressler, the couple settled in Philadelphia until Brook was drafted back into the Marines where he then served in Korea. Brook graduated from Temple Law School where he was president of the Student Bar Association. Brook’s legal career included being accepted to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court, serving on the Pennsylvania Bar’s Committee for Merit Selection of Judges, teaching law at Temple Law School and the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. Brook was elected and served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of Pennsylvania in 1968. Brook and Betty moved to Swarthmore, Pa. in 1960 where they raised their five children. Brook was active in the community and was awarded the Swarthmore Recreation Association Volunteer of the Year award in 1975. They moved to Malvern, Pa., where Brook served on the vestry of St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church and then to Maris Grove in Glen Mills, Pa. Brook played semi-pro football with the Darby Rams in the 1950’s. He was an avid tennis and basketball player through his 70’s and until moving to Maris Grove in 2006. Predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Betty, he is survived by children Jane, Christine, Holbrook III, Elizabeth and James; three sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law; grandchildren Edward Benbow, Wyatt Bixby, Holbrook Bunting IV, Marjory Adams, and Natalie Watson; and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will celebrate the life of Brook Bunting at the Cardinal Clubhouse Chapel at Maris Grove, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, Pa., 19342, on Saturday, January 6, at 10:00am.
