Mr. William L. "Bill" Crossan, Jr., 85, of Newark, died on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Christiana Hospital after a short illness.

Born on April 2, 1926, in Wilmington, DE, Mr. Crossan was the son of the late William L. Crossan, Sr. and Josephine V. (Staszesky) Crossan. He was a graduate of Newark High School, Class of 1944. Bill was a WWII veteran who served in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as a field repeaterman (wire communications systems), Technician Fifth Grade, in the 58th Signal Battalion. A portion of his military time was served in the Army occupation of Japan. Following his discharge, he worked for several local businesses, including Boulden Oil in Newark. Most recently, he retired in 1996 from the former Iron Hill Pallet Company on Elkton Road, where he worked for over thirty years.

Bill will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (Brown) Crossan; his daughter, Susan M. C. James and her husband, Kenneth; and by his sweet granddaughter, Melissa. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Harry J. Crossan.

A funeral service was held on Friday, August 5, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark. Interment was held privately.
