Notes for Rowland Leroy Jr. COATS
Rowland L. Coats, Jr., 90, of Abington, PA died on August 16, 2017. He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth (Annesley) Coats of 39 years. Rowland was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 10, 1927 to the late Rowland L. and Marian W. (West) Coats, Sr. He grew up in the Frankford section of Philadelphia and graduated from Germantown Academy in 1945. After serving in the Army, he attended the University of Pennsylvania. He received his accounting degree from the Wharton School and worked as the assistant controller T Thermal in Conshohocken, PA. Rowland enjoyed playing tennis at Manufacturers’ Golf and Country Club, traveling with his family, and playing cards with friends he has known since childhood. He is survived by his sons William Coats (Barbara) and Thomas Coats, MD (Nancy), his grandchildren Timothy, Sarah, Spencer, Carolyn, Lindsay. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Joanne Coats.
