Horace G. Mendenhall

Horace G. Mendenhall, 98, formerly of Fulton Township, entered into rest on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, where he had been residing for the past 6 weeks. Born in Chrome, PA on the family farm, he was a son of the late John R., and Emma J. (Massey) Mendenhall. He was married to the late Betty (Miller) Mendenhall who died in 1998.
Horace was an avid farmer who found joy in watching things grow. He was a hardworking man who would help anyone in need. He was the oldest living member of the Union Fire Co. in Oxford. He had worked as a truck driver for the former Farm
Bureau in Oxford and had also driven truck for the former Walker Oil Co. in Nottingham. Horace was a tractor enthusiast and took meticulous care in restoring John Deere and Farmall tractors. He had attended Solanco Bible Church.
Horace is survived by a daughter, Sharon Mendenhall of Peach Bottom; a nephew, Jack, husband of Gloria Folker of Strasburg; a niece, Shirley, wife of Bill Doss of Charlestown, MD; a nephew, Jim Folker of Marietta; and a nephew, Marty Folker of
Oxford; step grandchildren: Wayne Garrison and his two daughters; J.R. Gotschall, husband of Kim and their five children; and Susan Foote, wife of Mark.
Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews, and his special friend, Sara Criswell. Horace was preceded in death by his stepchildren: Gene Gotschall, and his wife Joyce and Gerrie Garrison and her husband, Charles; a step granddaughter-in-law, Sharon Garrison; a sister, Gladys P. (Mendenhall) Folker and her husband, Charles; a brother, Ernest Mendenhall; a nephew Ken Folker, and a great-nephew, Jeff Folker.
Funeral services will take place at Dewald Funeral and Cremation Services, 227 W. 4th St., Quarryville PA on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Oxford Cemetery. Viewings will be held at Dewald's on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral
