Notes for Joseph Richard PIERSON
Joseph Richard Pierson of Faggs Manor Road in Cochranville, formerly of Hockessin, DE, died April 3rd, 2017, peacefully at home.
The son of Joseph Reese Pierson and Lucy Hahn Pierson, husband of Joan Porter Pierson. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Mary Alice Sissel of Georgia and son Wayne Porter Pierson of Millmont, formerly of Cochranville.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, son Joseph Douglass, and wife Marsha, of Chardon, OH, and sister Ella Pierson Craig of Conn.; daughter-in-law, Lisa Gabbard of Webster, TX; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He graduated from the former Conrad H.S. in Wilmington and attended Rutgers U.
The family moved from Hockessin where he had been in farming with his father, to Cochranville in 1961 to begin a dairy and crop farming operation. In 1972, he retired from the farm and engaged in a business of custom spraying and fertilizer application.
He liked antique autos and tractors and began a business of restoration. He maintained a collection of Case show quality tractors which he had restored. He liked all sports, especially the Penn State football team and had maintained tickets and attended games since 1967 until recently. A vacation home was maintained in Millmont for relaxation and hunting. He was an avid race fan.
He had been elected Constable and Tax Collector for Londonderry Twp. and served on the Advisory Board for the former Brandywine S. & L. Bank in Avondale.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 2:30pm at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA followed by interment at Hockessin Friends Meeting House Cemetery in Hockessin, DE. Visitation at the funeral home from 1:00pm to 2:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to West Fallowfield Christian School or Cochranville United Methodist Church.
