Notes for Elizabeth Tayloe Beale BROWN
Elizabeth Tayloe Beale Brown Pierson, age 74, of Chadds Ford, PA, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 1, 2017, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, after a 3-month battle with cancer.
She was the oldest daughter of Robert M. and Anne H. Brown, of Wilmington. Born in Birmingham, AL and raised in Wilmington, Elizabeth attended Tower Hill School and graduated from The Tatnall School in 1961. She also attended St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, VA, Finch College in New York City, and finishing school in Paris.
In 1967, Elizabeth married John C. Pierson, Jr., of Wilmington, and had three children during their nearly twenty-year marriage.
Elizabeth’s calling was caring for children. She adored her own children Jay, Corbin, and Tucker; and many others including Katie, Bobby, and Russell Applegate. She was an assistant in classrooms at Charis House Preschool for many years, volunteered at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, Tower Hill School, and at the Flower Market in Wilmington. Elizabeth was a member of the Junior League of Delaware and the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Delaware Chapter. She was a board member for Children and Families First, a Wilmington nonprofit, following in her father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. Since 2004, she was a volunteer at the visitor center at Winterthur Museum and Gardens.
Elizabeth cherished her family and friends. Known to her grandchildren as Dizzy, she adored reading books and playing cards with them. Her most treasured moments were spent with close and extended family, and friends whom she considered family. Elizabeth’s most defining quality was her ability to relate to people; she would make an everyday acquaintance into a dear friend.
Elizabeth is survived by her three children: John C. Pierson III, his wife, Heather, and their children Jake, Samantha, and Owen; Corbin T.B. Pierson Woods, her husband, Stephen, and their children Harrison, Mason, and Annie; Tucker T. Pierson, her husband Travis Elliott, and their children Turner, Odile, and Willcox. Elizabeth is also survived by her dear sisters Yolande Dobbs and Susanna Fenimore, their children and grandchildren, her sweet dog Bismarck, her granddogs, and grandcats.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 8, at 11:30 am at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, 505 E. Buck Rd., Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request contributions to Tower Hill School, Children & Families First, or Winterthur.
