Notes for Joseph F. MALLOY
Joseph F. Malloy of Homewood at Martinsburg, Blair County, Pa., formerly of Levittown, passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, Jan. 10, 2009, in Altoona, Pa. He was 88.
He married Charlotte L. Pennock on August 5, 1950, in Pottstown.
He was born March 8, 1920, in Bayonne, N.J., son of the late Joseph B. and Anna (Walsh) Malloy.
Mr. Malloy was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Roaring Spring, Pa., and a former member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Fallsington.
He retired as an elementary school principal at Pennsbury School District in 1982. He began his professional teaching career as an elementary teacher and served the school district for a total of 32 years.
Mr. Malloy was a 1950 graduate of East Stroudsburg Teachers College and received his master's degree from Temple University, Philadelphia.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in Italy and North Africa from 1942 through 1945 with the 15th Air Force, 484th Bomb Group, attaining the rank of master sergeant.
Mr. Malloy was formerly active in the American Red Cross, NEA and PASR. He was a former volunteer at the Statesman Nursing Center, Levittown.
He enjoyed golfing, his regular trips to Atlantic City, N.J., and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Penny Greene of Altoona and Catherine Latini of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eileen Malloy and Anna Marie Nugent, both of Bayonne, N.J., and Sister Ann Josepha of Flourtown; and two brothers, Robert T. of Brick, N.J., and Francis J. of Bayonne, N.J. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sister Grace Anita; a brother, Thomas R; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Malloy.
Friends will be received from 10:30 until the time of Christian burial service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg with Monsignor William Shultz officiating. Committal will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg, Pa.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association or the Pennsbury School District Scholarship Fund.
