Notes for Louise HIBBERD
Louise H. Cortelyou, formerly of Haverford Twp. Louise H. Cortelyou, 86 of Keene, NH passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 10, 1930; the daughter of the late Robert G. and Amy L. Hibberd. Louise was educated in the Haverford Township School District in Pennsylvania and graduated from Haverford High School in 1948. Louise attended Beaver College in Jenkintown, PA and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, class of 1952. She also furthered her education by completing her Masters in Education at West Chester University. For 17 years, Louise worked for The Philadelphia Savings Fund Society (PSFS) before it became Mellon/PSFS, working her way up from teller (one of the first women tellers in Philadelphia) to head teller, branch manager, and manager of the decedents estate department. After working with the private banking department since its inception, she finished her time with PSFS as director of the banking education/training department. Louise’s community volunteer activities included girl scouts, summer Bible school, Trinity Lutheran Church Women, Berwyn United Methodist Church Women, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and tutoring middle school students in the Tredyffrin/Eastown school system. After retiring in 1996, Louise took up hand weaving and attended Harrisville Design School of Weaving in New Hampshire. She also took Navajo Weaving from Pearl Sunrise in Taos, New Mexico. She was involved in The Thread Project: One World, One Cloth Dawn Looming which is one of seven large textiles woven by 49 weavers around the world who used threads and fibers sent by tens of thousands of people from every continent. The weaving was streaked with the colors of sunrise, reminding us to awaken and “pray the sun up” as we seek to banish the darkness of prejudice and intolerance. She was also published by Harrisville Designs: Weaving Today - Weaving with Yarn Series - 4 Shaft, 4 Block Double Weave Throw. Louise is survived by two sons, Gordon Maniscalco (Carol) of Havertown, PA and Richard J. Maniscalco of West Grove, PA; three grandchildren, Seth W. Maniscalco (Gina) of Youngstown, OH, Laura Lee Robinson (Jamie) of Pensacola, FL, and Amy Lee Maniscalco; of Arlington, VA; and five great grandchildren, Kyle, Katelyn, Kaela and Kolton Maniscalco and Rosalyn Robinson. Louise is also survived by her sister, Amy Lee Riley of Reading, PA. Louise was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Louise Maniscalco Kurgan in 1989 and her husband, Theodore Cortelyou, in 2006. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 4 at the Birmingham Friends Meeting House, 1245 Birmingham Rd., West Chester, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Church of Harrisville, 13 Canal St, Harrisville, NH.
