Notes for Shirley Anna MENDENHALL
Shirley A. Whiteside, age 74 of Paradise, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, June 24, 2011. She was the wife of John T. Whiteside, Sr., with whom she celebrated 54 years of marriage on October 26th of last year. She was born in Bartville, daughter of the late Harold E. & Vivian Groff Mendenhall. She was a lifetime member of Colerain Baptist Church where she was very active. She graduated from former Christiana High School and the former Parkesburg High School. Shirley worked as a cook in the cafeteria of the Octorara Area School District retiring in 1995. She was active with The Gideons International. She was a member of the Special Division of the Bart Twp. Fire Company. Shirley enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving besides her husband are 3 children: John T. Whiteside, Jr. of Bart, Robert husband of Evelyn Hall Whiteside of Norristown, Diane wife of H. Curtis Woerth, II of Paradise, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will take place from the Colerain Baptist Church, 1923 Noble Road, Kirkwood, PA on Thursday, June 30th at 11 a.m. with Pastor Chester L. Halstead officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a viewing at the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA on Wednesday evening June 29th, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Colerain Baptist Church, 1923 Noble Road, Kirkwood, PA 17536 or to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O.
