Notes for Mary E. COMLY
Mary E. Commons Neff Boothroyd (Comly) of Devon Born in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Samuel and Hannah Comly. Proceeded in death by brother Samuel Jr., daughter Elizabeth, and 3 loving husbands. She attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. After the military took over the hotels in Atlantic City during WWII, Mary worked at The Haddon Hall, which was being used as a hospital. It was there that she met her first husband, Charles Paul Commons, who was killed in an auto accident immediately following the war. J. Warren Neff, whom she met and later married, was in the real estate business in the Philadelphia area. They chose Devon in which to live for 35 years. As a homemaker, she and Warren raised 5 children. They moved to Hershey’s Mill, West Chester in 1980, the same year he passed away. She was married to Joe Boothroyd from 1992 until his death in 2006. Mary was athletic and very active throughout her life. As an avid golfer, she competed in and won many tournaments. She also enjoyed paddle tennis, bowling, aerobics, playing bridge and smooth Jazz. Growing up at the Shore, Mary always loved the beach, gardening and the outdoors. She instilled that love in her children. She was a dedicated volunteer for 35 years at the Trading Post, which benefited the Fox Chase Cancer Center. She had a one-of-kind personality, and didn’t pull any punches to let you know exactly where you stood. She will be remembered for her beauty, strong will and determination, as well as her kindness, and constantly positive outlook. Mary was an active member at The Baptist Church In The Great Valley where she enjoyed worshipping each Sunday for over 60 years. Mary leaves her loving children, Linda, Paul, Cynthia, Warren, William and close friend Tracy to celebrate her long and well-lived life, as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A memorial celebration of Mary’s life will be held January 14 at 11am at The Baptist Church in the Great Valley, 945 N. Valley Forge Rd. Devon, PA 19333, with a luncheon reception immediately following in the adjacent Scott Building. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to The Baptist Church in the Great Valley. Interment will be private. Arr. by Alleva Funeral Home www.allevafuneralhome.com
