Notes for Eleanor WRIGHT

Eleanor Wright Graul, 86, of Downingtown, formerly of West Chester and Kennett Square, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019, at Simpson Meadows. Born on April 28, 1933 in West Chester, she was the daughter of Granville Owen Wright and Nora Wise Francis. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Russell O. Wright in 2016. Eleanor was a 1951 graduate of B. Reed Henderson High School.

Eleanor was employed by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in the accounting department for 23 years, retiring in 1995. Shortly after retiring she spent the next 20 years employed by the Wentworth Home as a Matron, where she enriched the lives of many seniors by organizing activities and being there for the comfort of the residents. She also accumulated 2,671 volunteer hours at the Paoli Memorial Hospital in their Palm Tree Consignment Shop and she received the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2005.
Eleanor was a lifetime member of Calvary Lutheran Church of West Chester. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and willingly helped out wherever she was needed.

She was also a member of AARP, West Chester Chapter #1520; Order of the Eastern Star, West Chester Chapter #352; Chester Valley Lodge #965 Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen; West Chester VFW Auxiliary; Rebecca Lodge in Paoli; The West Chester Area Senior Center and the Kennett Area Senior Center.

She enjoyed the beach, traveling with her sister, Doris, reading, playing cards, collecting porcelain dolls and puzzles. She especially enjoyed planning for and celebrating birthdays and holidays. For many years she invited friends and family to her Christmas Eve open house where Santa would surprise the children with a visit.

Eleanor will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her three daughters, Barbara E. Potter (Steve), Susan G. Pollock (Brian), and Linda G. Engle (Chuck); her brother, Francis G. Wright; and three sisters, Doris W. Beck, Ruth W. Bainbridge, and Mary Emma W. MacWhorter; her grandchildren, Dan Potter (Danielle), Kristen Potter Jones (Matt), Michelle Potter, Nolan Potter (Amber), Heather Pollock Harris (Matthew), Justin Pollock, Lauren Engle Bailey (Patrick) and Keith Engle (Brittany) and 8 great-grandchildren. Eleanor was a remarkably selfless person who lived her entire life making sure that everyone around her felt special and loved.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
