Notes for Barbara Anna LUKENS
Wilmington - Barbara (Lukens) Miller, of Wilmington, Delaware, born on January 18, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Mary Ingram Lukens and General Reaves C. Lukens, Sr., passed away on March 24, 2018 in Leesburg, Virginia. Barbara graduated from Upper Darby High School and Pennsylvania State University with bachelors and masters degrees in education. After college she taught in the Upper Darby and New Castle County school districts. She was the beloved wife of Frank Miller. Barbara is survived by her son, Doug Miller; daughter, Jean Miller Smith; brother, Reaves C. Lukens, Jr.; and grandchildren, Sarah, Mary, and Paul Smith, and Leah Miller. She enjoyed traveling, listening to Irish music, spending time with her children and grandchildren, loving her Airedale terriers, and playing bridge. Barbara was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and P.E.O. Sisterhood. Barbara was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She volunteered her time at the Grand Opera House and Playhouse on the Square in Wilmington. She was a member of the Junior Board of Christiana Care as well as a listener for Contact Delaware. Donations in Barbara's name to the Cancer Research Institute (cancerre search.org) are welcome and appreciated in lieu of flowers. Barbara was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and cousin. Our memories of Barbara, Mom, Mama will forever live in our hearts. Friends and family can pay their respects at the memorial service on Saturday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1502 W. 13th Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19806. A memorial tea will follow.
