WEST CHESTER, PA. — HOOPES – Philomena J. (Mascherino), 70, West Chester, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence T. "Larry" Hoopes Jr., with whom she shared 44 years of marriage at the time of his passing in August 2007. Born in Downingtown, Philomena was the daughter of the late Dominick and Emily (Fiore) Mascherino. A 1959 graduate of Bishop Shanahan High School. Prior to raising her family, Philomena was employed as a laboratory technician for Pepperidge Farms. Member of St. Joseph Church, Downingtown; and founding member of Women of Steel at Lukens Steel Co., Coatesville; and Flight 93, Memorial Chapel Auxiliary, Shanksville. Philomena enjoyed bowling and traveling. She especially loved Nancy Grace, Court TV and Elvis. Survived by sons, Lawrence T. III, Port Republic, Md.; Steven G., West Chester; Jeffrey B., and wife, Michele, Ephrata; and Matthew J., and wife, Constance, Wilmington, Del.; grandchildren, Lawrence "Larry" IV, Stacia, Casey, John "Jack," Nicholas, Sean and Anna; brothers, James, and wife, Marie, West Chester; Joseph, and wife, Joan, Downingtown; Bishop Alphonse, Somerset; Fred, and wife, Gail, West Chester; Louis, and wife, Sharon, Coatesville; Dominick Jr., Coatesville; and Andrew, and wife, Kathy, Downingtown; and sisters, Mary Jean Manion, and husband, Thomas, New Mexico; and Genevieve "Ki-Ki" Burkhardt, New York. In addition to her husband and parents, she also was preceded in death by sister, Franie Cosgrove. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Ave., Downingtown. Interment, St. Joseph Cemetery, Downingtown.
