Notes for Joanna BALLOU
Joanna Ballou Savery of Kennett Square Joanna Ballou Savery, 96, passed away Monday, Aug. 22, 2016. She was the wife of the late Edward W Savery, Jr., with whom she shared more than 60 years of marriage. Born December 16, 1919, in Concord, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Julian Wheeler Ballou and Sylvia Reed Ballou. She worked as an Occupational Therapist in Boston, MA, where she met her future husband. They were married in 1945, and soon moved to the West Chester, PA, area where they raised their 3 children. She and her husband loved the out-of-doors and travel. Family has been the greatest joy in Joanna’s life. Her loves also extended to singing, many creative endeavors, and vacationing with extended family. Throughout her life, she was dedicated in her involvement with many volunteer organizations. Joanna was on the Founding Board of Kendal at Longwood, a Quaker retirement community. She and her husband moved to Crosslands, another Kendal community, in 1995. She is survived by her children, Joseph W Savery (wife, Deborah) of Downingtown, Carol Savery-Frederick (husband, William P. Frederick) of Windsor Locks, CT, and Sylvia W. Savery of West Chester; grandchildren, Sarah Savery, Victoria Williams (husband, Mathew) and Paul Savery (wife, Natasha); and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Sidney Reed Ballou. She was a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and is buried at Middletown (Delaware County) Friends Meeting, Lima, PA. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Crosslands, 1660 East Street Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children, 113 W. Chestnut St., West Chester, PA 19380, or to Middletown Friends Meeting, c/o 1631 East Street Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
