Notes for Evelyn HERSHEY
Evelyn Rutt Rohrer, 86, of Arbor View at Willow Valley Manor, Lancaster, PA, entered into rest on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. She was the wife for 36 years of Amos H. Rutt who died in 1980, and the wife for 9 years of Melvin Rohrer who died in 1994.
Evelyn farmed with her late husband Amos in Quarryville. She loved her flowers and gardening. She was a caring mother and grandmother, who enjoyed taking flowers to the sick and elderly of her church, Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church. She served as a teacher, and was active in the Sewing Circle and Happy Hearts Sunday school class. Evelyn later volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was the kitchen manager for the Solanco Fair for many years. She loved vacationing in Sarasota, FL.
She was born in Paradise, a daughter of the late Isaac E., Jr., and Esther Burkhart Hershey.
She is survived by three children: Peggy wife of James Groff, Lancaster, Kenneth husband of Connie Rutt, Drumore, Richard husband of Khay Rutt, Quarryville, 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, 3 step children: Nelson husband of Rose Rohrer, Lititz, Nancy wife of Clyde Wissler, Lancaster, Joanne wife of Thomas Morton, Bird-In-Hand, several step grandchildren, 4 sisters: Miriam wife of James Herr, Nottingham, Mary wife of John Darras, Leola, Ruth wife of Roy Book, Ronks, Rhoda Nolt of Lancaster, 3 brothers: John husband of Carolyn Hershey of Quarryville, Isaac husband of Betty Hershey, Quarryville and Arizona, and Gerald husband of Cherry Hershey of Greensboro, NC. She was predeceased by a grandson, Kevin Groff.
A memorial Service will be held at Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. Friends may meet the family following the memorial service. Private burial at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Black Rock Retreat, 1345 Kirkwood Pike, Quarryville, PA.
