Notes for David G. HIBBERD
Media resident David G. Hibberd, 57, of Media, an active member of the Media community, died Aug. 22 at his home. Born in Springfield, Mr. Hibberd and his family moved to Media in 1965. Mr. Hibberd moved to North Carolina in 1997 before moving back to Media in 2007. A graduate of Penncrest High School, Mr. Hibberd was captain of the wrestling team. He continued his education at Penn State University. Mr. Hibberd began his professional career in the real estate and insurance business at Hibberd Brothers, a company that was owned by his family. Endowed with a love for the Media community, Mr. Hibberd was a member and former officer of the Media Rotary Club. He was also active with the Delaware County Board of Realtors, and helped to create the computerized conversion of the Tri County Multiple Listing System. President of the Media Business Association for five years, Mr. Hibberd was instrumental in many of the traditions that survive today, such as the State Street Christmas Tree Lighting and the business tax funding mechanism. He was also instrumental in developing the slogan, "Media: Everybody's Hometown." Mr. Hibberd had a love of nature, and enjoyed gardening and working on his koi ponds. An avid birdwatcher, Mr. Hibberd built and maintained bird feeders. Mr. Hibberd enjoyed traveling, history and the seashore. His love of tinkering and fixing things provided him a second career as a handyman. He was known as man with a sense of humor, enthusiasm for good food and passion for simple pleasures. However, his greatest joy came from the unwavering support from his wife and best friend as they faced the challenges of life together. Mr. Hibberd was the son of the late Stanley and Marilyn Hibberd. Survivors: Wife of 30 years, Betty Jo Hibberd; stepsons Joel and Benjamin Rose; brothers, Tom Hibberd, Donald Hibberd; three grandchildren. Service: 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Media Presbyterian Church, Baltimore Avenue and Church Street, Media. Visitation: 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Contributions: Media Theatre for the Performing Arts, 104 E. State St., Media, PA 19063. Arrangements: Rigby Harting and Hagan Funeral Home, Media.
