Notes for Franklin Herbert PENNELL
Franklin Herbert Pennell, Jr., of Dunwoody Village, formerly of Malvern, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2019 at the age of 82. Beloved husband of 51 years to Lorraine (nee Fletcher), devoted father of Susannah Pennell Rinker, Franklin Herbert Pennell III (Pudding), brother of Emily Endries, and adored grandfather of Chase William Rinker, Charlie Pennell Rinker and Luna George Pennell who was born in his spirit on September 16, 2019.
Born December 4, 1936 to Franklin Herbert Pennell and Emily Whitten Augé, Lin grew up in Bucks County. He discovered trains at an early age which developed into a hobby that lasted a lifetime. Lin graduated from The George School where he was Head of the Boy Day Students. He was a proud Boy Scout earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Haverford College as a Mechanical Engineer and received his MBA from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania. He also proudly served in the Marine Corps.
Lin began his career of 35 years at PECO as a test engineer at Schuylkill Generating Station, and went on to work in Public Relations at Limerick Generating Station.
Lin was a voracious reader and lover of knowledge! Every day included the crossword puzzle from the “Inky” and watching Jeopardy. He happily shared his favorite quotes, poems, stories, comics, with all who were lucky enough to be in his presence. He was a talented artist, a designer and fixer of everything, a lover of Kipling, the outdoors, all things Philadelphia, classic movies and a quoter of sitcoms. He was a dedicated member and past-president of the PMB Rotary Club. Most importantly, he was the most devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Relatives and friends are invited to Lin’s Celebration of Life on Friday, September 27th at 1:00 pm at Paoli Presbyterian Church. Before the service family will receive friends at the church between 11:30 am-1:00 pm. Interment will be private.
Donations may be made in Lin’s name to the PMB Rotary Foundation Trust, P.O. Box 833 Southeastern, PA 19399 or to the Bryn Mawr Hospital Foundation, 130 South Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010.
