Notes for Mary Jane MANION
LEA, MARY JANE - 1920 - 2016 Mary Jane Lea passed away Saturday, May 14th surrounded by her children. She was the perfect lady, living life to the fullest. Her sharp mind and caring nature were evident in all she did and accomplished. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Mary Jane married Sergeant Lea, the love of her life, in Oklahoma and relocated up and down the east coast for Sergeant's career, each time an adventure. Following his death, she relocated to Avalon, New Jersey and became very actively involved at Maris Stella Church for 49 years. Mary Jane volunteered over 9,000 hours to Burdette Tomlin/Cape Regional Medical Center and was named Special Touch Volunteer for her work. Mary Jane was also active for many years with Burdette's fundraising events. Other involvements included the Avalon Civic Club, Avalon Garden Club, HOW (Help On Wheels) and Avalon Book Club. Mary Jane also loved playing Bridge and attending Rosary Group. Mary Jane is survived by her caring children, John Sergeant Lea and wife Sandra, Sharon Marie Lea and Mandy Lea Hassold, and by her beloved son-in-law Rick Hassold. Also survived by her brother, William J. Manion, his wife Nancy and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish, Maris Stella Church, 5012 Dune Drive, Avalon, NJ, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Gifts in memory of Mary Jane may be made to the Holy Redeemer Food Bank, 1801 Route 9 North, Swainton, NJ 08210, or Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish, Maris Stella Church, 5012 Dune Drive, Avalon, NJ 08202.
