Notes for William Murray Jr. ROSS
1930-2016 William Murray Ross, Jr. “Bill”, Age 86, a longtime resident of Media, PA, died peacefully at home on April 17, 2016. Born in Tarrytown, NY and raised in Moylan, PA, Bill was a graduate of Media High School class of 1948. He attended Rutgers University and studied in Penn State’s Agricultural Program. He also studied Architecture at Temple University. He served in the United States Air Force Crash and Rescue for 10 years (5 active) during the Korean Conflict. Bill was a plant manager at BKL (Bonner-Kard-Olite) for four years, but he was self-employed for the majority of his career in construction and concrete. Bill was very involved with the South Media Fire Co. and Middletown Fire Co. where he was a chief engineer. He was a member of International Rotary District 7450 and considered a Guy Gundaker Fellow, an award conferred by the Gundaker Foundation. Bill sponsored Aston-Middletown Little League for many years. He was a Boy Scout and volunteered on the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of PA for ten years. He was involved with Camp Sunshine from 1949-1990 as a counselor, board member, and president. He worked as an instructor at the American Red Cross. Bill enjoyed sailing, skiing, camping, traveling, and cruising. He spent time in the Caribbean, Hawaii, Bermuda, and the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sally Woodward Ross; his sister, Elisabeth “Betsy” Ross Fischer of Roanoke, VA; and his trusted American Eskimo companion, Foxy. He is survived by his daughters, Jean “Reds” E. Ross of Media, who served as his caregiver, and Barbara A. Daland (Timothy) of Landenberg as well as his grandson, Tucker E. Daland. Memorial Service: Sunday, May 1st, 1:00 pm at the Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home, 15 E. Fourth St., Media PA 19063. Friends may call from 12 - 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Taylor Hospice, 300 Johnson Ave., Ridley Park PA 19078.
