Notes for A. Elaine KEMERY

A. Elaine Cook of Downingtown A. Elaine Cook, 90, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016. She was the wife of J. Edwin Cook. She was the first infant born in the Chester County Hospital on April 8, 1926. Elaine was the daughter of the late Clarence H. and Olive A. McCardle Kemery. Upon her graduation from West Chester High School in 1943 she was employed as a bookkeeper at the First National Bank of West Chester. She was a third generation member of the First Presbyterian Church of West Chester. She was also very active as a lifelong member of Brandywine Grange #60, where she held almost every office over the years. As a member of Pomona Grange #3, she was elected the first woman Master in 1984. Mrs. Cook entertained numerous church and youth groups with her magic, chalk talks and monologues. She was also a Girl Scout leader and Republican Committee Woman. Elaine and her husband of 65 years met at a Grange square dance. They continued to dance with the Snaperoo Square Dance group into their eighties. Mrs. Cook is survived her daughter, Diane Marino, her son Darrell Cook; two grandsons, Ross Shacklett (Katie), Daniel Shacklett; and her sister, June K. Pratt. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 21 at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 W. Miner Street, West Chester, PA 19382, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The interment will be private.
