Notes for Donia GROVE

PUSEY, Donia, 81, of Wilmington, N.C., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Davis Health Care Center of Cambridge Village. Born September 15, 1934 in Augusta County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Jack and Henkle Grove. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles "Jerry" Pusey. Donia is survived by her daughter, Beth High and husband, Staffan; her son, Steve Pusey; her four grandchildren, Hallie and Ian High, John and Caroline Pusey; her sister, Jere Fitzgerald and husband, Buck; her nephew, Mark Pusey; and her nieces, Michele Lawson, Kristy Gilliam and Kim Crawford. Donia graduated from James Madison College in 1955 with a B.A. in education. She taught elementary school in Virginia for over 10 years. As an avid reader and teacher, she instilled in her children and students a love of books. She even taught preschool at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Midlothian, Va., in her later years. Donia was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, where she served on the Altar Guild and participated in other charitable functions. Donia was a genuinely kind, generous and humble person with natural class and style. She enjoyed the beauty of nature, gardening, bird watching and escaping into a good book. As a loving and devoted mother, she encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue their goals. She was an empathetic listener and a deep thinker. Her handwritten book of treasured thoughts and poems is a wonderful legacy for her family. Donia was devoted to her friends, family and most importantly, to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers of the past three years, Adraenia, Natasha, Betty, Natalie, Arthur, Stephanie, Jayne and Ruth. Your constant care and companionship brightened her life and that of her family. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2016, at St. Andrew's On-the-Sound Episcopal Church, 101 Airlie Rd., Wilmington, N.C. 28403. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Andrews Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market St., Wilmington, N.C. 28401. Interment will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in Donia's name to Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 2341 Winterfield Rd., Midlothian, Va. 23113.
