Notes for Robert Emory PORTER
Robert Emory Porter, formerly of St. Davids Robert (Bob) Emory Porter, Esquire, 100, of Naples, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Bentley Village Retirement Center. He was born in Wayne, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, November 7, 1915, the son of the late Milton J. and Edna Lee Porter. He graduated from Radnor High School in 1934 and Wesleyan University (Connecticut) in 1938. He was a member of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from The University of Pennsylvania Law School and was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1941. He entered the army in 1943 as a private, was assigned to Chemical Warfare Service, and promoted to Captain in 1945. He married Doris Wick Ray in 1941. After World War II he returned to legal practice in Wayne, PA with the firm Greenwell and Porter, later Greenwell, Porter, Smaltz, and Royal, until retirement in 1985. He was active in the community of Radnor Township, PA, as President of the Rotary Club, Wayne Business Association, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Wayne Methodist Church, and an original Trustee of Valley Forge Military Academy. He was President of the Delaware County Bar Association, and Associate County Solicitor of Delaware County. He was Secretary of St. Davids Golf Club from 1972 to 1980 and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and traveling with wife Doris to many locations around the globe. He took pleasure in collecting antiques and various unique items from different locales. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Doris; by daughters Joan Sanderson (Pete) of Seal Beach, CA and Barbara Janssen of Colorado Springs, CO; sister Elizabeth Hutton of Coatesville, PA; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
