Mabel W. Baldwin, 87, of Honey Brook, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at her home, following a long illness.
She was born in Honey Brook Township, Chester County, on Dec. 30, 1921, the daughter of the late J. Jacob and Stella I. (Miller) White.
She was the wife of William D. "Bill" Baldwin, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.
Mabel was raised on a farm, just north of Honey Brook.
She was a graduate of the Honey Brook High School.
During World War II, she worked at the Collins & Ackman Mills of Downingtown, making uniforms for the armed services.
She retired after 20-plus years as the head cook of the dietary department of the original Tel Hai Nursing Home.
She and Bill lived on Chestnut Street in Honey Brook for 58 years.
She was a member of the Honey Brook United Methodist Church.
She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Wawassan Post #422 of Honey Brook.
She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and watching her Phillies play baseball.
Mabel was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah J. Baldwin; and a brother, Foster M. White.
She is also survived by her beloved daughters, Judith E. and her husband, George R. Good, of Coatesville, and Audrey J. and her husband, Glenn Smoker, of New Holland. There are four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. at The Labs Funeral Home Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, with the Rev. Phil Cherry officiating.
Interment will follow in Honey Brook Presbyterian Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
