Notes for Margaret L. JOHNSON

1915-2016 Margaret L. Gleason At the magnificent age of 100, Margaret L. Gleason was granted her angel wings on February 14, 2016. Her final days were spent surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones who were privileged to be part of her very memorable life. Margaret was born on May 31, 1915 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard S. Johnsen in the small town of Fernwood, PA. She remained in the town to raise her own family and was recognized for her momentous achievement as the town’s oldest living resident. She was also a founding member of St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church. Margaret enjoyed the simple things in life. Her pleasures included reading, doing word puzzles, watching the Phillies, eating at her favorite diner, and spending time with her family. Her most treasured times were spent traveling with her husband and soulmate, Michael. They enjoyed over 52 years of marriage before his death in 1993. Margaret was known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Her smile was infectious. She truly was a generous, compassionate, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her zest for life, her love of family, and for her feisty personality. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Michael; her grandson Michael Bryan; her brothers, Thomas, Bernard, George, James and Robert and her sisters, Eugenia, Anna, Marie, Alma, and Thelma. She is survived by her brother, Norman E. Johnsen, Sr. of Wilmington, DE; her daughters, Margaret M. Bryan of Fernwood, PA and Michele P. Minkiewicz of Bear, DE; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to remember this remarkable woman at her Viewing, Thursday, February 18th, 6:00 pm, O’Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Rd., Springfield, PA and on Friday, February 19th, at 9:30 am in St. Kevin Church, 200 W. Sproul Rd. Springfield, PA. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30am. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
