Notes for Marjorie HEAP
Marjorie H. Lukens, formerly of Oreland, Pennsylvania, died Friday, January 22, 2016 at Fort Washington Estates. She was 84 years old. Marjorie was born on October 21, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late George Roscoe Heap and the late Helen S. Heap (nee - Sterr). She was the beloved wife of the late Walter G. Lukens Jr.; mother of Walter G. Lukens, III and his wife Joanne and John Todd Lukens and his wife Christina. She was grandmother of 5, Anne, JT, Margaret, Andrew and Emma; she was predeceased by her brother George and has a niece, Bronwen.
Marjorie was born and raised in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. She attended Girls High School and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1953. Thereafter, she taught for nearly 40 years in Cheltenham and Abington School Districts. Marjorie met Walter Lukens on Memorial Day at Bob's Grill in Ocean City, New Jersey; they fell in love almost immediately, spent nearly every day together that summer, became engaged in July and were married on November 20, 1954. They were happily married until his sudden death on November 10, 1962. Marjorie was an active member of Carmel Presbyterian Church, Abington Presbyterian Church and later, First Presbyterian Church of Ambler. She was an avid bridge player, patron of the opera and enjoyed both knitting and quilting.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 1:00 P.M. and memorial service at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, 4 South Ridge Avenue, Ambler, PA 19002, www.fpcambler.org. A reception at Gwynedd Estates, 301 Norristown Road, Ambler, PA 19002 will follow.
