Notes for Lydia E. GUTHRIE

Lydia E. Bennett of West Chester Lydia E. Bennett, 94, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard J. Bennett, Sr., with whom she shared 68 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2011. Born October 24, 1921 in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Agness Russell Guthrie. Lydia attended Harmony Hill School, Copeland School, and graduated from West Chester High School in 1940. She was a stay at home mom until her children went to school and then she worked for Allister Manufacturing Company, Inc. for 27 years before retiring in 1984 as an inside sales associate. She belonged to the Downingtown V.F.W. Post 845. She loved bowling, golfing, square dancing and traveling to the shore, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Lydia E. Bennett Thomas and her husband Barry and Howard J. Bennett, Jr; four grandchildren, Kenneth C. Blevins, Jr. (Amy), Lydia E. Anderson (Corey), David A. Bennett and Randy E. Bennett; six great grandchildren; a brother, Curtis V. Guthrie; sisters-in law, Lenore Guthrie and Billy Guthrie and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, where family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be private with the family in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery.
