Doris Annette (Young) Chambers

Doris Annette Chambers, passed away peacefully on, Saturday January 9, 2016.
She was born in Wilmington to the late Elva (Seicke) and Baynard Young and graduated from Wilmington HS in 1935. She then graduated from the University of Delaware in 1939 and received her Master's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in social work in 1941. While in college she worked for the State of Delaware as a welfare case worker until 1941. In 1955 she joined the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council and was on the executive staff, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Girl Scouts from 1928 to 1982 and enjoyed attending her Girl Scout Alumni Birthday Luncheon Group. Doris was a lifelong gem and mineral collector and a member of the Delaware Mineralogical Society from 1950 to 2007. She also played violin with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra in her younger years. She loved to travel extensively throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Her husband of 45 years, Marshall B. Chambers, Sr. died in 1985. Doris is survived by 2 sons, Marshall, Jr. (Donna) of Wilmington and Donald (Marian Sipler) of Vero Beach, FL; 2 grandsons, Grant and Marshall; a sister-in-law, Barbara Young; a grandson-in-law, Theodore Swiatek and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Doris is also preceded in death by her brother Donald Young and a granddaughter Elizabeth C. Swiatek.
Doris's family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Shipley Manor Senior Living Community for their compassionate care during her 8 year stay.
