Notes for Mary Jane MERCER
MARY JANE JOHNSON, 83 Mary Jane (Mercer) Johnson, 83, widow of Henry D. Johnson, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Frederick Living in Frederick, Pa. Born in Reading, Mary Jane was the daughter of the late Jesse H. and Mabel G. (Geiger) Mercer. She resided in many places including Boyertown, Gilbertsville, and Kennett Square, PA, Clinton, IA, and Richmond, VA. She was a 1950 graduate of Boyertown High School and then went on to graduate from West Chester State Teachers College in 1954 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. She was a music teacher at Pennridge Area School District before staying at home to raise her children. Mary Jane loved music and served as church choir director in most of the communities where she lived. Known for her laugh and smile, Mary Jane had the gift of hospitality and welcomed many people into her home and life. She was a woman of faith and came to know Jesus at the age of 16 and spent her adult life serving others. She was a faithful wife, loving mother, devoted friend, caring sister and will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Mary Jane is survived by one daughter, Susan J. (Johnson) Outland, wife of Bruce, of Gilbertsville; two sons, David A. Johnson, husband of Jennifer (Reynolds), of East Fallowfield, PA and Philip H. Johnson, husband of Christine (Caffrey), of Williamsport, PA; two brothers, John E. Mercer, husband of Carol, and James A. Mercer, husband of Janice; two sisters-in-law, Laura Jean (Johnson) Montgomery and Marjorie (Johnson) Krause, and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Jesse H. Mercer Jr. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity E.C. Church, 250 Swinehart Rd., Boyertown, PA. There will be no viewing, but the family will receive visitors 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. The burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mary Jane to Trinity E.C. Church of Boyertown, 250 Swinehart Rd., Boyertown, PA 19512.
