Notes for Laird Thomas DICKERSON
Laird Thomas Dickerson, 44, formerly of Springfield, an air traffic controller, died of a brain tumor Feb. 7 at a hospital in Columbia, S.C.
Mr. Dickerson was an air traffic controller for nearly 20 years and had been working at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, in Columbia, S.C., since 1987. Before that, he worked at LaGuardia Airport, New York City, and at the Atlantic City Airport.
Mr. Dickerson was born in Philadelphia. He grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School.
He attended the University of Tampa, in Florida, and earned a bachelor's degree from Adelphi University.
Mr. Dickerson was an air traffic controller in the Air Force.
In Springfield, he was active with the Boy Scouts, and he enjoyed ice- skating.
He recently starting playing tennis. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Columbia.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Deborah Coggeshall Dickerson; two sons, Thomas and Joseph; his parents, Iris Laird and Leonard C. Dickerson; and three brothers, Gary C., Bradford S. and Keith A. Dickerson.
A funeral was held Friday at Kovacs Funeral Home, Springfield. Burial followed in Montross Cemetery, Upper Darby.
