Notes for Katharine Reinoehl WITMEYER
17 Oct 1950: Mrs. Katharine Reinoehl (Witmeyer) Ehrgood, wife of Judge A. Harry Ehrgood, President the Lebanon County Courts, died at 11 o'clock Monday night at the family home, 502 Cumberland Street. She was in failing health for many months and during the past summer was under treatment for a time at the Temple University Hospital Philadelphia. She returned home three weeks ago. Mrs. Ehrgood was born in this city, March 29, 1889, a daughter and only child of Daniel P., and Emma Ellen (Reinoehl) Witmeyer. Her father for many years conducted the Witmeyer bookstore on South Eighth Street one of the best known business places in the community in that .period. The daughter graduated from the Lebanon High School with the class of 1907 and then took a liberal arts course at Swarthmore College where she graduated in 1911, and where she became affiliated with the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity. She possessed an unusual penchant as well as real talent for poetry and a number of her writings attained wide acclaim from friends although she never attempted publicity. She was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church and for nearly fifteen years was a member of the Board of Managers of the Widows Home. She served as resident of the board for five years. Mrs. Ehrgood attained widespread popularity because of her attractive attributes of heart and mind, and she was held in particularly high esteem as a member of the Lebanon Woman's Club, and one of the popular Book Clubs of the city. In addition to her husband she leaves three sons, A. Harry Ehrgood Jr., Peter W. Ehrgood and Thomas Alexander Ehrgood, all of this city. There are five grandchildren, Katherine June Ehrgood, Peter Witmeyer Ehrgood, Jr., A Harry Ehrgood, 3rd; William Worrilow Ehrgood, and Harry Carruthers Ehrgood, all of Lebanon. [Lebanon Daily News]
