Notes for Robert Parke Jr. REGESTER
Robert P. Regester, 75, a native of West Chester who for 23 years owned a Pontiac car dealership in Upper Darby, died Monday in the Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was a resident of Haverford the last 25 years.
Born in West Chester, Mr. Regester was a 1934 graduate of West Chester High School, where he was a member of the tennis team and school band. He graduated
from the Taylor Business School in Philadelphia in 1936.
He later attended the General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich., and upon his return became associated with Bushong Motors in Upper Darby.
During World War II, he worked at Westinghouse in the Lester Division in Essington, then returned to Bushong Motors after the war.
He became a partner of the auto firm in 1950, and in 1956 he acquired ownership of the company. Changing the name to Regester's Pontiac Inc., he continued to operate the business from its State Road and West Chester Pike location for the next 23 years.
In 1979, he sold the business and retired, dividing his time between his Haverford home and houses in Delray Beach, Fla., and Stone Harbor, N.J.
Mr. Regester was a member of the Drexel Hill United Methodist Church. He also held memberships to the Lions Club and Optimists Club in Upper Darby, the Aronimink Golf Club, the Delray Beach Club and the Union League.
He was also past president of the Delaware County Auto Dealer's Association.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Alphretta Keech Regester; two sons, J. Robert Regester and Kenneth P. Regester; a daughter, Dianne R. Fischer; a brother, and eight grandchildren.
A funeral was to be held Thursday in Drexel Hill United Methodist Church, Drexel Hill. Burial was to be private in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery, Birmingham Township.
