Notes for Mary Agnesia NOCKE

Mary Agnesia Nocke Hoopes, 87, of Westerly, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005.

Born Jan. 12, 1918, in Havre de Grace, Md., she was the daughter of Emil Harry Nocke and Anna Christine Hutzler.

She was a lifelong resident of Elkton, Md., until moving to Rhode Island in 2002 following the death of her beloved husband, Frederick K. Hoopes in March 2002.

She is survived by her children, Mary Christine Haicken of Mohegan Lake, N.Y., Emil Erick Hoopes of Baltimore, Md., and Elizabeth Hoopes Hansen of Mystic; three grandchildren; and her sisters, Jane N. Fries of Fort Collins, Colo., Annabel Markley of Richmond, Ind., Josephine Gillen of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Edith M. Webb of Elkton.

She was predeceased by her brother, Henry Nocke of Huntsville, Ala.

She retired from the Perry Point Veterans Administration Hospital as an occupational therapy assistant in 1982. She spent her retirement years volunteering for Northern Chesapeake Hospice and the Cecil County Library.

She spent many wonderful hours with friends and family, who could most often find her working in her garden. She was a voracious reader. She loved creating with her hands. Her greatest joy was the almost 60 years of marriage, love and companionship shared with her husband, Fred. They enjoyed traveling in New England and taking day trips, especially along the Brandywine River. She continued to make new friends and enjoy adventures until her death.

A memorial meeting and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
