Notes for Betty PICKERING

1874 MRS BETTY ADAMS 1963
Mrs. Betty A. Adams, the daughter of William and Huldah Stanley Pickering, was born in O'Brien County, Iowa, August 2, 1874, and passed from this life after a lingering illness while a patient in the Primghar hospital, September 7, 1963. As a child she attended the public school of Peterson, and later the Sutherland High School.

Her marriage to Lincoln Adams took place in Sutherland, on February 15, 1898. To them were born two children, a daughter, Bernice, and a son, Harold. The family lived in Freeport, Ill., for four years. Mrs. Adams spent fourteen years in the Peterson vicinity, and seventy-one years in the Sutherland Community.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, its Woman's Society of Christian Service, and Victory Chapter of the Eastern Star, from which she received her 50 year certificate in 1962. Mrs. Adams was a gracious woman. She maintained a keen interest in her surroundings and enjoyed her home.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1939, four sisters and one brother.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Bernice Phillips, of Sutherland, Iowa; a son, Mr. Harold Adams, of Akron, Iowa; ten great grandchildren, and three grandchildren; Mrs. Martin (Alice) Anderson of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Bruce (Harlene) McInnes, of Hawarden, Iowa; and Michael Adams, in the United States Navy.

Funeral services, under the direction of Baumgartens, were held in the Sutherland Methodist Church, Monday afternoon, September 9, 1963, 2 p.m. Her minister, the Rev. Warren A. Bintz, was in charge. Burial took place in the Waterman Cemetery.
