Notes for William Dean MAITLAND
W. Dean Maitland, 95, of Coatesville, passed away on Sunday, September 6th at his home surrounded by his family.
He was the beloved husband of Alice M. Maitland, with whom he would have shared 69 years of marriage this coming Sept. 29th.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Emma (Clinger) and William Maitland.
A 1938 graduate of Scott High School and was a lifelong Red Raiders fan.
He joined the US Army during W.W.II, serving for over three and a half years, seeing combat in Guadalcanal.
He was the owner and operator of Maitland's Paint and Decorating Center for 50 years, retiring some 20 years ago.
Dean was a former member of the Presbyterian Church of Coatesville, where he served as Elder, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher. He was President of the Coatesville Rotary and was a Director of the Coatesville School Board. He was a member of the Coatesville Country Club and enjoyed playing golf, having shot a hole in one on three occasions.
Dean played French Horn in the Coatesville Presbyterian Band as well as the Lukens Band.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by his five daughters: Sharyn Vietri, wife of Bill, of Coatesville, Diane Jordan, wife of Ken, of Coatesville, Brenda Fleck, wife of Bob, of Coatesville, Judy Coldren, wife of John, of Eagles Mere, Pa and Jill Morrison, wife of Steve, of Coatesville; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
He was predecesed by siblings Lois Pitcherella and R. Edgar Maitland.
He was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 11th at 11 AM at Wagontown Union Chapel, 469 W Kings Hwy, Coatesville, PA followed by interment in Hibernia Methodist Cemetery. Viewing will be held at the church from 9 until 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that contributions be made to: Camp at Old Mill, 127 Brandamore Road, Honey Brook, PA 19344.
