Notes for Thomas Charles Erwin BATTEY
BATTEY, SR., THOMAS CHARLES ERWIN BATTEY, Of Roanoke, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on September 15, 2006 at the age of 80. Thomas was born on March 26, 1926, in Minneapolis, MN to Ernest Heaton and Margaret E. Vanderwalker Battey. He served with honor in the United States Navy during WWII. He married Bonnie Jo Taylor on March 29, 1947 in Oklahoma City, OK. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2003. He was an Oklahoma State University alumnus, worked for more than 20 years at Braniff Airlines and after retiring from Braniff, he went on to work in Iran, Saudi Arabia and as a teacher in the Lewisville School District. He was a member of the Lewisville VFW Post # 9168 and the American Legion Post # 0088. "The influence of individual character extends from generation to generation." Macleod. He is survived by, his daughter, Judith Y. Paulos and husband Kermit A. of Arlington, VA; his three sons, Thomas C. Battey Jr. and wife Becki of Kaufman, TX; John L. Battey and wife Della of Roanoke, TX; and David E. Battey of Travis Co.; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and thousands of friends worldwide. Services will be held at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery at a later date. Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home of Lewisville is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Smithsonian Institute or Navy Memorial.
