William Wood Wylie of Birmingham

William Wood Wylie, 82, of Birmingham Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at Barclay.
He was the husband of Jane Heyburn Wylie.
Born in Birmingham Township, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Wood Wylie.
Following his 1940 graduation from West Chester High School, he graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He was a controller with Schramm's for 37 years until 1984. Then he worked as an accountant for 17 years with Butts Ticket Co. of Cochranville until his retirement in 2001.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery under General Omar Bradley in the European Theater from 1943 to 1945.
His memberships included Westminster Presbyterian Church, Chadds Ford Historical Society, Brandywine River Museum, Brandywine Driving Club and National Steeplechase Association. He was President of the Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery Association.
He was also a former Supervisor of Birmingham Township and a member of the Birmingham Township Planning Commission.
Bill loved his family, farm, horses, and his Corgi, Nick.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, William Wood Wylie Jr. and wife Abigail Colyer Wylie of Unionville; his daughters, Sarah E. Coburn and husband Christopher of Russellville, and Laurie Brinton Wylie of Maple Shade, N.J.; two grandsons, Stuart Sheffield Wylie and Peyton Thresher Wylie; a brother, Robert Wylie of Kennett Square; and a sister, Mary Ann Komar and husband John of Berwyn.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phoebe Sheffield Wylie, who died in 1960; his son, John Sheffield Wylie, 1980; and his brother, John M. Wylie, 1985.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Interment will be private in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery.
