Notes for Clara H. DAGUE
MIDDLETOWN — Clara D. Raysor, of Middletown, passed on to a better place Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at her home, just as she had requested. She was 85.
Thanks to the help of Compassionate Care Hospice and the devotion of her children and grandchildren, she was cared for and surrounded by her family during her long and hard battle prior to passing.
Clara was born and raised in Coatesville, Pa., on Oct. 1, 1922, to the late J. Graham Dague and Elizabeth (Dague Way) Stern.
She married the boy next door, Charles H. Raysor Sr.
Clara was a strong woman who raised five children, most often independently of Charlie, a pilot, while moving around the country.
The raising of her children was her life's work.
She had love, dedication, consistency and a rock-like will and presence. She raised her children with her strong sense of right and wrong and an unparalleled work ethic.
After her children had moved away from the family home, she took in her granddaughter, Tanya, who lived with Clara and Charlie for many years.
Tanya added light and laughter to their world. Clara thought of Tanya as another, much loved, daughter
Clara loved to have the family over for home cooked Sunday dinners and a game of "May I?"
One of her many gifts was an incomparable flaky piecrust.
Clara also enjoyed making a home for and watching songbirds in her back yard. She maintained a beautiful yard and garden.
Clara's annual Christmas tree was always a spectacular display of collected memories.
Most recently, she volunteered and spent countless hours with her friends from the MOT Jean Birch Senior Center, all the while enjoying the activities at the center, as well as taking local and distant road trips.
Clara's life had many interesting facets.
Her mother, Elizabeth (Way) Dague, was a twin to Clara (Way) Dague, her namesake, and the two Way twins married the Dague brothers, J. Graham and Oscar, who owned and ran the local dairy.
Clara often joked that her father was really the milkman. Clara (Dague) Raysor was a fraternal twin to John Dague and Clara married a twin, Charlie Raysor, twin to Enoch. Clara and Charlie had twin daughters, Sue and Sally.
In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raysor; her twin brother, Johnny Dague; a sister, Betty Dague; and an infant granddaughter, Charlotte Raysor.
She leaves many cherished memories to her five children, Charles "Chuck" Raysor Jr. and his wife, Rose Mary of Georgetown, Md., Susan "Sue" (Richardson) Zych and her husband Andy of Wilmington, Sara "Sally" Holland and her husband Cecil of Middletown, Martha "Marti" (Connor) Brooks and her husband Donnie of Ellendale, and Deborah "Deb" Sullivan of Middletown; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; Clara, known as "Sis" to her childhood buddies, also leaves behind her best friend and double first cousin, Martha "Marty" (Dague) Boyd; a cousin, Alice "Allie" Dague; and her childhood and lifelong friend, Florence "Flossie" (Erwin) Pickle.
Services are private and Clara will be going home to Coatesville.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to MOT Jean Birch Senior Center, 300 S. Scott St., Middletown, DE 19709, in remembrance of the fun times shared during her life; or to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 5610 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808, for the love, care, support and compassion given to her during her illness and prior to her passing.
