Notes for Claire OLIVER

Claire McKissick of Media Claire McKissick, 83, of Media, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010. She was the beloved wife of Horace W. "Bud" McKissick, Jr, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Born and raised in Philadelphia by the late Howard E. and Clara Myers Oliver, she was a graduate of Olney High School and Pierce Business College. She enjoyed a career as secretary at the Presbyterian Board, Breyers Ice Cream, for Dr. Charles Rose beginning in 1968 and continuing with Dr. Joseph Sincavage until her retirement in 1997. As wife, mother, homemaker and friend she always put her "family" first. Claire was always a lady, quiet, gentle, reserved, with an inner strength beyond measure. For 55 years she was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Media. She volunteered as a leader for her children's scout troops and cafeteria mom. She received her ten year pin in recognition of her volunteer service to Riddle Memorial Hospital. Claire enjoyed swimming, ice skating, ballroom dancing, sewing, bird watching and home improvements. In retirement she was rarely seen without knitting, crocheting or a good mystery novel in her hands. She was a true fan of football (please don't talk during the plays), especially the Eagles. She loved her dogs, Buff and Sport, and granddogs, Ralph and Gracie. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Mark, daughter Linda (David) Cupp, sister-in-law, Marian L. Schrader, nieces, nephews, cousins, furperson "Kitty" and granddog, Fidget. She was predeceased by her sister, Jane Oliver in 2006.
