Notes for David B. SMEDLEY

David B. Smedley, age 77, of Palm Coast, went to touch God's garments and feel his enduring peace. David began his journey on Dec.14, 2005 with his beloved wife Terri at his side. Born in Chester, Pa., David resided in Aston Township, Pa., before moving to Palm Coast over 20 years ago. David was a devoted husband and loving father who put God, family and friends first. Mr. Smedley served in the U.S. National Guard, training at Indian Town Gap, Pa. David managed the Smedley Brothers Scrap Metal Company and was a member of the Chester Chamber of Commerce, before go in to work at Sun Olin Chemical Company in Chester. During this time Mr. Smedley was elected to serve as Treasurer and Tax Collector of Aston Township. As a dedicated family man, David was active with his children's development, serving as President of the Aston Township P.T.A., counselor for Young Life at Faith Baptist Church, Cub Scoutmaster of Pack 292 and a member of the Sun Valley Band and Booster Club. A devout Christian, David was a long time member of Faith Baptist Church in Brookhaven, Pa., and continued his fellowship with God in Florida by attending Anastasia Baptist Church in St. Augustine. After retiring to Palm Coast, David enjoyed his association with Lowe Palm Coast Realty and Ginn Development Co. David had a gift of making friends by saying "Hello" and many times would do so in the native tongue of his new friend. Mr. Smedley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Terri Smedley of Palm Coast; daughters, Barbara L. Porter of Claymont, Del., Patti L. Smedley of Philadelphia, Pa., Lauren G. Smedley of Cape May, N.J.; sons, David B. Smedley Jr. of Houston, Texas, Donald G. Smedley of Clarksburg, W.Va., Randal C. Smedley of Georgetown, Texas, Gary Jon Smedley of Port Charlotte, Fla.; sisters, Mary Lou Hartley of Media, Pa., Sarah Campbell of Claymont; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and friends around the world. Friends are welcome to come to Anastasia Baptist Church in St. Augustine to celebrate David Smedley's life, Monday Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m. Family and close friends are invited to a private graveside service Tuesday Dec. 20 at 11a.m. as his earthly body is returned to the earth.
