Notes for Stephen Leroy STYER

Stephen L. Styer, of Garnet Valley, age 102 years, born December 16, 1914, died peacefully at home after a short illness on November 29, 2017. He is survived by his son, Warren Styer (Lorraine); his son-in-law, John Spargo (Anna); his grandchildren David Styer (Cindy), Kathryn Bierbower (Park), Preston Swift (Valerie), LeeAnn McCall (Thomas), Jacquelyn Stephanou (James); 11 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 79 years, Anne Griswold Styer, and his daughter, Constance Styer Spargo. Born at home in Concordville to Blanche and Ernest Styer, Steve was raised and received his early education in a one-room school house in Font, Uwchland Township. As a school boy, Steve excelled at poetry recitation and still enjoyed entertaining his family with poems from his childhood until his very last days. In 1935 he married his West Chester High School sweetheart, Anne Griswold, and they raised their children Warren and Connie in Boothwyn. Steve worked as a carpenter for 40 years at Ludlow Manufacturing and Sales before retiring in 1976. He was well known for the large vegetable garden he grew and the beautiful furniture he made and restored for family and friends throughout the community. He was the oldest member of Windsor Baptist Church in Uwchland Township. Memorial donations can be made to the Windsor Baptist Church, 213 Little Conestoga Rd., P.O. Box 596, Uwchland, PA 19480; or Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 333 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43604. A memorial service and celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, December 16 at 11 am (visitation begining at 10 am) at the Windsor Baptist Church, 213 Little Conestoga Rd, Uwchland, PA.
