Notes for Leonard H. PATTON
Leonard H. Patton Sr., 79, a retired welder and member of a family sandlot baseball team of nine brothers, died of cancer Tuesday at his home in Coatesville.
Mr. Patton retired in 1982 after 43 years as a welder for Lukens Steel Co.
He graduated from Coatesville High School in 1938. He served with the Army in North Africa and Europe during World War II and then resumed his work as a welder.
He earned a Purple Heart during World War II.
Mr. Patton was the catcher for the Patton Brothers, a baseball team that he and his eight brothers established. The team participated in several sandlot leagues in the Coatesville area after the war. Over the years, when a substitute player was needed, the brothers would call one of their sons to fill in to continue the all-family lineup.
Mr. Patton was a Mason and member of the West End and Martin's Corner Fire Companies, Loyal Order of the Moose and the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Viola Weller Patton; a son, Leonard H. Jr.; a daughter, Sharon Len Sabo; five brothers; three sisters; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Harris-Mountain Funeral home, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, followed by services at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery, East Fallowfield.
