Notes for Phyllis GROFF

EASTBURN
PHYLLIS G., known as Sandy, died quietly at her home in Doylestown Township on April 7, 2015. She was 91. She was the wife of David P. Eastburn who died in 2005, and active in the Philadelphia arts community. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Sandy was the daughter of Frazier and Phyllis Groff; she attended Swarthmore College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1945 with a major in mathematics. After college, she went to work in the research department of the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank where she met her husband, a co-worker at the bank. With her assistance, her husband eventually rose to become its President. Sandy and Dave were both talented musicians. They co-founded the Bucks County Symphony and became active also in the management of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Her husband became the Orchestra's President and together they travelled through-out the world with Eugene Ormandy, Ricardo Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra whose members became great friends. Their days together with the Orchestra were probably the most joyful of her life. Mrs. Eastburn is survived by four children: D. Rodman Eastburn, Esq. and his wife, Valerie of Doylestown; Stephen F. Eastburn and his wife, Joanne of Beverly, Massachusetts; Susan B. Eastburn of New Britain, Pennsylvania and Laurie Bayon of Newtown, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by nine grand-children, Michel, Sarah, Alexandra, Mark, Matthew, Santiago, Michael, Christopher and Erika, and a great grandson, Leo.
