Notes for Lucy Jeanne PIERCE

Lucy was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Ella (Maxwell) Pierce. She was a teacher and a volunteer. She grew up in Kennett Square, PA. After graduating from Miss Illman's Normal School in Philadelphia, she taughtelementary students in West Chester at Moorestown Friends School and in NewYork City, NY.
She married her childhood sweetheart, William K Mendenhall. They lived in Leonia, NJ where she taught Sunday School and served on the local schoolboard. They later lived in Princeton.
After her husband's death, she moved to Germantown and volunteered at Germantown Hospital. She moved to Penllyn in 1976. After 1981, she lived at Normandy Farms Estates retirement community where she was involved in social activities.
Lucy was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler.
When she was 99, Lucy visited her grandchildren in California and Nevada and celebrated her 100th birthday in Connecticut with her extended family.
Lucy died of heart failure at Normandy Farms Estates.
