Josephine ‘Jo’ Byrd Veser of West Chester Josephine “Jo” Byrd Veser, 93, of West Chester died on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 in the company of her five children. Jo Veser was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Fred “Bud” Veser. Born in Unionville to Donald and Esther Tipton Byrd, she spent her childhood with older brothers Jeter, Taft, and Ted Byrd and sisters Mary Byrd Munch, and Dorothy Byrd Barnett. Jo attended the Unionville schools and later graduated from West Chester State Teachers College where she was the 1st woman editor of the College newspaper, The Quadrangle. She taught 5th grade at Collingdale Elementary School until she started her family. Mrs. Veser was an active member of the United Methodist Church of West Chester where she taught Sunday School for 60 years. She was well known for her expertise in the design and creation of doll clothes, smocked dresses, and innumerable charitable guild items. Jo loved all things of natural beauty and manifested this passion in a bountiful garden, birdwatching, and walks with her husband and children. She loved a good laugh, enjoyed every day, and was illuminated in the presence of 3 generations of descendants. She is survived by daughters Judy MacRone, Connie Nesbitt, Kathy Alderman, Nancy Kelly, and her son, Dr Fred Veser. She was beloved grandmother of nine and great grandmother of 10. The remembrance service celebrating Jo’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of the United Methodist Church of West Chester located at 129 S High Street.
