Funeral services for Donald B. Pyle Sr., 79, of Severn will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Adams Funeral and Cremation Care Bestgate Chapel, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis.
Mr. Pyle died of natural causes Sept. 13 at North Arundel Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Baltimore and was educated at Baltimore City College. He lived in Severn for 32 years and formerly lived on the Eastern Shore for many years.
Donald B. Pyle Sr., 79, a 32-year resident of Severn, died of natural causes Oct. 13 at North Arundel Hospital after a lengthy illness.
A former longtime resident of the Eastern Shore, Mr. Pyle was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Baltimore. He completed his education at the Baltimore City College just before enlisting in the Navy in 1943.
He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, with his tours including Guam and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in April of 1945, having received the Pacific Theater Ribbon with two stars, American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
A Maryland State Trooper at the Easton Barracks in the early 1950s, Mr. Pyle later joined the Boy Scouts of America, retiring in 1984 as director of camping with the BSA's Baltimore Area Council.
Subsequently, he held various part-time positions with Anne Arundel County government, including as a 911 operator and health aide with area high schools. More recently he was employed by Seaside Restaurant.
His interests included drawing, collecting Boy Scout memorabilia, camping and spending time with his grandchildren. Over the years he was active with the American Legion and Retired Maryland State Troopers Association and area civic groups including Kiwanis and Rotary International.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Iris D. Pyle; one daughter, Beatrice Mae Hanson of Ellicott City; three sons, Donald B. Pyle Jr. of Stevensville, Michael B. Pyle of Millersville and Pierre M. Pyle of Annapolis; and 11 grandchildren. His stepgrandson, Craig Robert Galyon, died in 2001.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bestgate Chapel 814 Bestgate Road, where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Internment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
